General William "Billy" Mitchell
Commander of the American Expeditionary Air Force in WW I who was the father of what was to become our modern Air Force. General Mitchell vehemently advocated the development and use of air power in warfare to the point that he was court martialed and resigned from the military in 1926. His opinions and proposals later led to the formulation of the Air Force as a powerful wing of the armed forces of this country. |
